From CSA to Farm Share: What’s in a Name?

From CSA to Farm Share: What’s in a Name?

We have some exciting news to share about the evolution of our subscription program at Caney Fork Farms! For the past few years, we’ve been honored to offer a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, and we are endlessly grateful for the support of our members. However, we are retiring the "CSA" label and reintroducing your favorite subscriptions as Farm Shares. Whether you’re a loyal veggie lover or a devoted meat connoisseur, you’ll still enjoy the same locally grown and regeneratively-raised produce and proteins, but now under names that better reflect what we offer:

- Organic Veggie Farm Share

- Regenerative Meat Farm Share

So, what’s driving this shift? And how does Community Supported Agriculture differ from a Farm Share? Let’s dig in.

What Defines a CSA?

At its core, a CSA is a partnership between farmers and the community, where members typically invest upfront at the beginning of a growing season. This model helps farms cover costs like seeds, tools, and labor before the harvest begins. Members share in the rewards—and risks—of farming, receiving a weekly portion of whatever the season provides, whether it’s a bumper crop of tomatoes or a lighter haul of squash due to weather challenges.

CSAs are deeply rooted in the idea of shared responsibility and connection. Members not only support the farm financially but also participate in its story, celebrating its successes and navigating its hurdles.

Why “Farm Shares”?

While we’ve loved operating under the CSA model, we recognize that not all aspects of our program fully align with its traditional structure. For example, we’ve designed our subscriptions to prioritize flexibility and convenience for our members. There’s no large upfront payment required, and we strive to provide a reliable selection of fresh, seasonal products each week, though the exact variety and appearance may naturally vary with the rhythms of weather and harvest.

In short, “Farm Shares” better describes what we offer: a direct, reliable connection to local, organically grown food. It reflects the personalized experience we aim to provide while preserving the spirit of partnership between farm and community.

What’s Staying the Same?

While the name is new, everything else about the service you’ve come to love remains unchanged. You’ll still enjoy the freshest seasonal veggies, pasture-raised meats, and the knowledge that you’re supporting a farm committed to regenerative and organic practices.

This change in language is part of our ongoing effort to better communicate what we do, celebrate our farm's unique model, and continue providing the best experience possible for you, our cherished customers.

Thank you for growing with us as we evolve! We can’t wait to continue this journey together under the Farm Share name.
